Methodology
- Data source
- n8n's public workflow template library at n8n.io/workflows/.
- Crawl process
- Automated pipeline performs a full library crawl every 7 days, fetching template metadata, node lists, view counts, and descriptions.
- Enrichment
- Each template is enriched with npm download trends for its constituent node packages, and classified by use case category.
- Use case classification
- Templates are assigned to 1 of 13 categories based on node combinations, template tags, and description analysis. Categories: Webhooks & API, Sales & CRM, Data Processing, Content & Marketing, DevOps, Productivity, Monitoring, Support, Lead Generation, Incident Response, Data Migration, Data Export, AI Enrichment.
- AI node detection
- Templates are flagged as AI-enabled when they contain at least one node whose type string matches keywords: openai, anthropic, langchain, gemini, mistral, cohere, hugging, ollama, groq, bedrock, vertexai, perplexity, lmchat, lm-chat.
- Complexity tiers
- Simple (1–5 nodes), Intermediate (6–15 nodes), Advanced (16–30 nodes), Expert (31+ nodes). Thresholds based on observed distribution breakpoints in the library.
- Limitations
- Covers public templates only. Does not include private workflows, self-hosted instances, or enterprise deployments. View counts are n8n.io-reported and may include bot traffic.
